Heidi Rhodes Pictures to make you smile
After graduating from Chelsea Art College with a BA(hons) in textile design specialising in weave I discovered machine embroidery and found my perfect media.
I love to draw and drawing using the sewing machine adds that special extra dimension. Using techniques I have developed over the years which involves an experimental use of thread, I produce Textile pieces with a fairytale quality. Inspired by the magic of childhood, this is the filter through which I produce my work.
I like to mix fairy tales with iconic scenes, such as Brighton Pier and The Houses Of Parliament, and there is often an element of humour to be found in my work.
Collections I have produced are, Brighton Bathers, The Naughty Fairies' 'The Pageant' 'The Olympics', The Poppies at the tower and most recently 'Star Wars in Stitch'.
I like the challenge of recording magical events in stitch, a sort of textile journalism/illustration and enjoy surprising people with unusual and eclectic mixes of story characters in my pictures.
I sell work at fairs throughout the year at shows that can be found on my events page or work to commission for pictures for special occasions. My pictures cam also be found at the Naughty Pirates gallery on Brighton sea Front,Arch 237,Kings rd bn31bn,my latest adventure with my partner Stephen.
